Last week, American Sentinel University and Colorado Hospital Association (CHA), alongside sponsors CorVel Corporation and Ava Healthcare, honored a group of exemplary employees from CHA member hospitals as part of the Colorado Hospital Superheroes program.
Honorees were recognized for their courage, strong moral code, sense of responsibility, fighting spirit and mental toughness to care for patients and communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. The virtual celebration included tributes from Colorado Governor Jared Polis and Scott Bookman, COVID-19 Incident Commander at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
In addition, American Sentinel University drew one name to receive a full-tuition scholarship to be used toward any degree program offered by American Sentinel. Kim Flynn, safety manager of Vail Health, was the recipient. Flynn was lauded for her resourcefulness in arming the Vail Health system with personal protective equipment and arranging to donate over 50,000 N95 mask to other Colorado healthcare organizations.
“Colorado owes all of its hospital workers a debt of gratitude for their incredible efforts to care for patients and communities during this pandemic,” said Chris Tholen, president and CEO of Colorado Hospital Association. “Through the Colorado Hospital Superhero program, CHA was proud to honor exemplary hospital employees from across the state for going above and beyond the call of duty during this public health crisis. I’m grateful to American Sentinel University and our other program sponsors for partnering with CHA to give these superheroes the recognition they are due.”
Flynn has been with Vail Health since 2008 and in the role of safety manager since 2015. Previously, she was the administrator of the radiology department. “It is an honor to be recognized among some incredible peers here in Colorado,” she says of the award. “And to receive the scholarship from American Sentinel was an incredible surprise! I feel so grateful that I’ve been given this opportunity to further my education, something I’ve thought about doing for a long time.” Flynn intends to enroll in the MBA Healthcare program.
“This year has been unimaginably challenging for healthcare professionals on the front lines,” says Mary Adams, president of American Sentinel University. “We’re so proud to team up with Colorado Hospital Association to recognize some of the hospital workers in our state who have gone above and beyond to deliver quality healthcare and better their communities. We feel humbled to celebrate them and their achievements, and excited to welcome one of them, Kim Flynn, as a new American Sentinel student later this year.”
American Sentinel has partnered with CHA in the past for other similar honorary programs, including the Colorado Health Care Star Award program. For more information about CHA, visit cha.com.
